One of my favorite books growing up was War of the Worlds. I was drawn to Welles' austere, clinical approach to his material, which gave his stories a feeling of timelessness and scientific exactitude. I needed to design a series of covers and bookmarks for three of his books. I decided to use stark black imagery on various colored backgrounds to capture Welles timeless, historical nature. Most of the imagery is sourced from vintage magazines and newspapers, with the exception of a few specifice elements (the Invisible Man's bandaged face is from a medical supplies catalog for instance.)
